EVANSVILLE, Ind.--()--Metronet today expanded its industry leading commitment to public safety by announcing George Kemp, Metronet Vice President of Safety and Quality Assurance, has been named to the Sunshine 811 Board of Directors, Florida’s Call Before You Dig safety initiative. Florida is the fourth state in which a Metronet executive sits on the state’s 811 safe digging initiative. The move underscores Metronet’s commitment to sharing best practices across industries and working to minimize issues of public infrastructure maintenance and construction.

During his two-year term on Sunshine 811’s Board of Directors, Kemp will serve on the Damage Prevention Committee and the Operations Committee. Since 2018, Kemp has served on Indiana 811’s Board where he was first appointed to represent the telecommunications sector. Kemp has since been appointed to serve as Chairman of Indiana 811’s Board of Directors. Leading safety initiatives for Metronet, Chuck Muller, Safety & Quality Assurance Director, serves on Ohio 811’s board promoting safe digging and utility safety throughout the Buckeye State. Muller also serves on MISS DIG 811 Board of Directors.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve on the board of Sunshine 811 and play an active role in keeping Florida residents and businesses safe,” said George Kemp. “I look forward working alongside other underground facility owners and operators as we work to improve the utility industry across the state.”

“Along with Metronet’s commitment to providing ultra-high-speed fiber internet, and as strong supporters and members of Sunshine 811, Metronet is dedicated to ensuring public safety and reducing the number of damage incidents in the communities we serve,” said John Cinelli, Metronet CEO. “We are excited to see George serve another state association in this important role and look forward to seeing his impact on the state of Florida.”
