Adam Pomeroy Suspends Campaign for Utah County Attorney and Supports Jeff Gray for County Attorney

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Statement by Adam Pomeroy:

“When I announced my campaign for Utah County Attorney, I did so as a first-hand witness to David Leavitt’s failed vision, failed policies, and failed leadership.

“Today, and especially after recent events, I am more convinced than ever of the need for a change in leadership. Something is rotten with the state of the Utah County Attorney’s Office.

“Four years ago, Mr. Leavitt vowed to radically reform the criminal justice system or to fail trying. And he did fail. There is widespread agreement that his policies have harmed victims, alienated law enforcement, and failed to hold offenders accountable.

“He is not only a progressive prosecutor, but a rogue prosecutor who has damaged our criminal justice system by placing his personal preferences above the rule of law.

“From the beginning of my campaign, the most important goal has always been to stop the damage Mr. Leavitt is doing by electing a new county attorney.

“However, it has become obvious that this goal cannot be achieved in a three-man primary. Mr. Leavitt is a member of a political dynasty, and his wealth and name recognition cannot be effectively countered without a united front. For the good of Utah County, it is crucial that only one candidate challenge Mr. Leavitt in the primary election.

“To that end, I am officially suspending my campaign for Utah County Attorney.

“Thank you to my many volunteers and supporters. Your generous donations of time, resources, and energy have been pivotal in getting us this far. It has been a privilege to work with you. I know there may be some among you who disagree with this decision, who would like me to fight on until the last ballot is cast at the primary. But I am not quitting, I am continuing the fight in a different role to ensure that the Utah County Attorney’s office sees a change in leadership. It is far more important that Mr. Leavitt is dethroned than that I become the next Utah County Attorney.

“If you seek that change, I ask you to join with me in supporting Jeff Gray for Utah County Attorney. Together we can restore trust and integrity to the Utah County Attorney’s Office.

“Jeff is a good man with decades of experience in criminal law. He will make a fine county attorney. Once he is elected, I look forward to working with Jeff to fix the problems at the Utah County Attorney’s Office.

“Together we can restore real justice to Utah County. Thank you.”
