Seniors From Ohio Virtual Academy Set to Take Charge of Their Future

MAUMEE, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--After two years of questions and distractions, the students from Ohio Virtual Academy (OHVA), an online public school serving K-12 students throughout the state, will celebrate its graduates with an in-person commencement ceremony this weekend.

The graduation will take place this Sunday at the Celeste Center on the Ohio State Fairgrounds Campus. A virtual ceremony will commence Thursday, June 30th. Details for the graduation can be found below or on OHVA’s Facebook page.

OHVA is set to graduate just over 1,000 students during the commencement. Kristen Griessmann, from Miamisburg, Ohio, is OHVA's Class of 2022 Salutatorian. And since Kristen participated in College Credit Plus, she is also graduating from Sinclair Community College with an Associate of Arts degree in Music. Kristen will be performing the National Anthem at graduation and giving a speech to the class of 2022.

And OHVA is celebrating its improved testing scores in Math, ELA, Science, & Social Studies which increased during the last two years of COVID, while state numbers declined overall.

“Our graduates have worked hard these last few years to overcome more obstacles than ever before, and I for one can’t wait to give them some recognition for all their hard work,” said OHVA Head of School Kristin Stewart. “We very much look forward to seeing what they do next.”

Prior to the pandemic, students enrolled in virtual school for a number of reasons—some were looking to escape bullying, some may have fallen academically off track, and others were looking for an alternative to the traditional classroom setting.

OHVA is inviting all families and friends worldwide to join the celebration. Details of the graduation ceremonies are as follows:
