Hagens Berman Investigating Spontaneous Fires Plaguing Owners of 2021 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs

Consumer-protection law firm says Ford owes owners more than “empty advice and a shrug”

DETROIT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Attorneys at consumer-protection law firm Hagens Berman are investigating spontaneous fires affecting 2021 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators that have already led to the recall of 39,000 vehicles.

If you own a 2021 Ford Expedition or Lincoln Navigator, you may be affected by this dangerous defect and may be entitled to compensation. Contact Hagens Berman to find out more about this issue and your consumer rights against Ford.

Additional Ford- and Lincoln-branded vehicles and model years are under investigation by the law firm. Hagens Berman specializes in large-scale, complex class-action litigation, and has successfully won billions of dollars in settlements from automakers, including Ford, putting just repayment back into the hands of consumers nationwide. The firm recently negotiated a $1.3 billion settlement with Hyundai and Kia for an engine fire defect, and has a pending class action lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler for spontaneous fires affecting its Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivans.

NHTSA Complaint: “We could have been killed!”

According to the National Highway Transit Safety Administration (NHTSA), 16 reports have been made of Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles spontaneously catching fire, including 12 cars which caught fire while parked and turned off. The cause is currently under investigation.

Owners of Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigator vehicles have reported complaints pertaining to this dangerous defect via NHTSA as well as other online news outlets, stating, “The fire not only destroyed the Expedition, but also caught our attached garage on fire, which caused us to also loose [sic] another vehicle along with the majority of our house hold contents.”

“This fire occurred on an early morning while most of our family was sleeping. We could have been killed,” one NHTSA report reads.

“While owners of affected Expeditions and Navigators are forced to live in fear of their SUV spontaneously catching fire either in use or turned off, Ford’s only advice has been for its customers to park outside and away from structures and other vehicles,” said Steve Berman, managing partner of Hagens Berman. “That is absolutely an insufficient response to the danger of this defect.”

“We believe Ford owes owners of affected Expeditions and Navigators much more than empty advice and a shrug,” Berman said. “We intend to fully investigate this issue under the consumer law.”

Ford’s recall notice indicates affected vehicles were built between Dec. 1, 2020 and Apr. 30, 2021.
