University of Phoenix Launches New Bachelor’s in Industrial-Organizational Psychology

Rapidly growing field dedicated to understanding and influencing workplace culture is focus of the new degree pathway

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--University of Phoenix College of Social and Behavioral Sciences has launched the new Bachelor of Science in Industrial-Organizational Psychology (BSIOP) program.

University of Phoenix focuses on developing, offering, and regularly updating career relevant degree programs for busy working adults. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over the next decade projected job growth is 11% for training and development specialists, a position for which a BSIOP can educationally prepare students. Other careers related to a BSIOP include compliance manager, human resources specialist, and job training specialist.

The BSIOP program prepares students to address workplace issues and support healthy workplace cultures by applying psychological principles to various business functions. It focuses on psychological theories and methods, ethics, and social, cognitive, and motivational processes. Students learn the foundation of psychology and how it is applied to industrial-organizational settings.

“Earning a degree in industrial-organizational psychology can help individuals contribute to and influence workplace culture in a broad variety of industries,” states Christina Neider, Ed.D., dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. “This program helps students gain skills to evaluate consideration related to ethics and diversity, to integrate industrial and organizational psychological principles in human work performance, and to synthesize appropriate personal and professional communication.”

Each BSIOP course is mapped to three skills and skills outcomes the students will learn. In developing the program, the University worked with labor market researchers to align in-demand skills that ensure students have the opportunity to learn and demonstrate them in coursework. BSIOP courses are aligned to the educational standards of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology (SIOP), and are shaped by current perspectives from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
