NorthState Rapidly Expanding Its 100% Fiber-Optic Network in North Carolina

Over 48,000 families and businesses will have access to ultra-fast gig-speed internet as early as March 2022.

HIGH POINT, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In a continued expansion of its ultra-high-speed fiber internet service, NorthState announced an accelerated construction schedule for growth in the Piedmont region, adding more than 48,000 homes and businesses across seven communities by the end of 2022.

Expansion areas include Greensboro, Kernersville, Oak Ridge, Walkertown, High Point, Thomasville, and Randleman. These communities will enjoy the benefits of a 100% fiber-optic network enabling economic growth and the ability to attract gig workers who want to live, learn, work, and thrive in the region.

The expansion plans include bringing the High Point region to nearly 100% fiber-optic network availability in NorthState’s service area by year’s end. It also covers the majority of homes and businesses in Kernersville and Walkertown.

"We are excited to bring gig-speed fiber internet to these North Carolina communities in 2022," NorthState CEO Diego Anderson said, "and we’re working hard to expand our future-proof network to even more areas of North Carolina and beyond.”

"Only a 100% fiber-optic network can provide virtually unlimited broadband capacity and synchronous download and upload speeds necessary for today’s ultra-high-bandwidth applications, including HD quality video meetings, virtual learning, latency-free VR gaming, e-commerce, and cloud computing,” continued Anderson.

Construction is underway, with plans for completion by the end of 2022. Some communities will have access as early as March 2022.

The announcement was met with widespread support from local leaders who are eager to have a next-generation fiber-optic network to enable the gig economy in their communities.
