Benu Networks Shortlisted in Telecom Infra Project’s OpenBNG RFI

RFI developed by BT, Deutsche Telekom, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, and Vodafone

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Benu Networks, the company transforming the service provider network edge, today announced that their SD-Edge platform has been named by the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) to the shortlist for the multi-operator OpenBNG RFI released earlier this year.

The RFI, jointly produced by BT, Deutsche Telekom, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, and Vodafone, shortlisted those companies whose solutions met the requirements defined for a next generation Broadband Network Gateway (BNG). The selection was made after an exhaustive and detailed evaluation of the responses to the OpenBNG RFI which contained nearly 2,000 requirements across routing, BNG capabilities, and provider edge MPLS services.

“Benu is extremely proud to have our SD-Edge platform named to the shortlist for such an important initiative by this esteemed group of service providers,” said Ajay Manuja, CEO of Benu Networks. “It is validation of our efforts to provide network edge technology so service providers can deliver innovative services, improve customer experience, and simultaneously lower total cost of ownership.”

“With global demand for bandwidth growing, our fixed networks are more critical than ever,” said Rafael Cantó Palancar, co-chair of the TIP Fixed Broadband Project Group. “Benu Networks brings valuable support and expertise in this domain, and we look forward to working with them on test and validation activities during the next phases of the project.”

The OpenBNG initiative, part of the TIP Fixed Broadband (FiBr) Project Group, is a significant example of industry consensus to taking an innovative approach to wireline network infrastructure, which underpins 100% of Internet traffic including the backhaul for 5G mobile connections.

The Benu SD-Edge platform is already broadly deployed across five continents and supports a variety of network functions including Broadband Network Gateway (BNG), Wi-Fi Access Gateway (WAG), Trusted WAG (TWAG), Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) Gateway, and 5G Access Gateway Function (AGF). As part of the TIP selection process, Benu will move into the test and validation phase in the first half of 2022.
