Aggressor Adventures Announces Travel Journalism Internship Program

Adventure brand partners with the North American Travel Journalists Association to Provide a Deserving Student with an Opportunity of a Lifetime

AUGUSTA, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aggressor Adventures® announces today a travel journalism internship program through a collaboration with the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) to encourage journalism students to pursue their dreams.

According to Education Week, new generations of journalists are eager to attend classes and get their feet wet by reporting for news outlets. Nearly half of teachers in journalism schools and colleges across the United States say they’re seeing a rise in class enrollment, and 30% of them report they’re witnessing a surge in interest in journalism. Unfortunately for the next generation of journalists, employment in newsrooms across the U.S. has dropped by 23% since 2008.

“Journalism’s positive impact on the travel industry cannot be overstated. As a trusted travel brand, we’ve relied on journalism to share our brand story with customers, vendors and prospective partners,” says Wayne Brown, CEO of Aggressor Adventures. “It’s an honor to create an opportunity of a lifetime for the next generation of travel journalists. The first-hand experience for the deserving recipient will be an invaluable addition to their resume as they look to break into the industry.”

Since 1984, Aggressor Adventures has offered travelers liveaboard scuba and snorkeling charters, luxury river cruises and exotic wildlife safaris. Once identified, the winning journalism student will have the opportunity to book and experience a fully comped Aggressor Adventures trip in 2022. Following the trip, the student is tasked with drafting a 1,000-word story on the experience and placing the story with news outlet. Additionally, the student is required to create social media content sharing the adventure with his or her followers.

“We are thrilled to partner with Aggressor Adventures in fostering the next generation of journalists,” says Helen Hernandez, CEO of NATJA. “One of NATJA’s core values is the importance of professional development, and what better way to gain experience than to immerse a student in a new environment, and not just experience it as a tourist, but understand what it means to be a journalist on assignment and the responsibility that comes with it.”

To be considered for the internship program, students must currently live and attend school in the United States, be enrolled in a journalism or communications program at a four-year college or university or have graduated from a four-year college or university with a degree in journalism or communications during or after 2020. Applicants are required to submit an 800-word essay on a list of predetermined travel-related topics. Additional details and requirements can be found here.
