Carrington Charitable Foundation’s REACT 2021: A CCF Virtual Event Raised Close to $1.2 Million for Wounded Veterans

The online event honored service members who have sacrificed much to safeguard American freedom.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.--()--For nine years in a row, the Carrington Charitable Foundation (CCF), the nonprofit organization of The Carrington Companies, hosted its celebrated Annual Golf Classic benefitting CCF’s Signature Programs that help provide Mobility, Stability, Purpose and Prosperity for Veterans returning from post-9/11 battlefields. The Golf Classic was named the Top Golf Event in Orange County for three consecutive years by the Orange County Business Journal. In 2020, because of the pandemic, REACT: A CCF Virtual Fundraiser took place online for the first time. This year, REACT 2021 again took place online, raising close to $1.2 million for the Veteran programs CCF supports. Corporate Synergies and Xome generously donated $75,000 at the Diamond Sponsor level; and Auction.com, Altisource and Ahmed and Mona Al-Khatib contributed at the Gold Sponsor/$25,000 level.

“Even when challenged by a global pandemic, we are grateful that so many donors, partners, friends and families joined us in a virtual setting to help us keep our promises to the Veteran families and nonprofit organizations that depend on us,” said Rosemary Rose, Chairman, Carrington Charitable Foundation. “Year after year, we are dedicated to continuing to support and expand the CCF programs that are so important to those who have given so much to safeguard our freedom.”

After a warm welcome from Rosemary Rose, and an introduction by Bruce Rose, CEO and Founder of The Carrington Companies, the program began with a stirring rendition of the National Anthem performed by Christiana Rojas, accompanied by Carrington Associate Kathleen Cox on violin. The event continued with Cox and her husband, Josh, discussing the CCF commitment to Veterans and the important work of The Honor Foundation, which helps Navy SEALs and U.S. Special Operations service members transition to life after service. Now employed by Carrington, Cox is better known to many in the armed forces community as Lt. Cmdr. Cox, who served in the U.S. Navy for 12 years as a naval aviator. During her service, Cox also served with the Naval Special Warfare Command, where she helped direct sensitive combat missions in a number of global hotspots.

“I have witnessed firsthand the tremendous, positive impact that today's event has on the Veterans it supports,” said Cox. “Josh and I have been among the fortunate ones. We both returned from every deployment, while countless of our brothers and sisters never will. We can never forget that the price of freedom is so often paid by fallen heroes who, without hesitation, sacrificed everything to keep us safe.”

Since 2011, CCF has raised over $25 million for CCF’s Signature Programs, which provide diverse ongoing assistance to Veterans and their families. In addition to presentations by Veterans, online attendees bid on a wide variety of items donated by Carrington associates and sponsors, with all proceeds pledged toward CCF’s ongoing mission, which supports Veterans through initiatives that provide:

  • Mobility: CCF financially supports The Veterans Airlift Command (VAC). Working with a network of volunteer aircraft owners and pilots, the VAC provides free private air transportation for Veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts and their families.
  • Stability: Carrington House provides custom, adaptive homes for catastrophically injured Veterans. To date, Carrington House has built or remodeled 28 homes for deserving Veterans, each designed to meet the special needs of wounded Veterans and their families. New for this year is CCF’s Gold Star Family Housing Initiative. In association with Mike Haynes, former Commander of U.S. Navy SEAL Team Two, this initiative assists struggling Gold Star families – the immediate family of a service member who died while serving – by paying off their mortgages.
  • Purpose: CCF assists such Veteran-focused nonprofits as the Travis Mills Foundation.
  • Prosperity: CCF also supports The Honor Foundation. This pillar of CCF’s Veteran-focused Signature programs works to ease the transition for our Veterans back to civilian life.

Also presenting during REACT 2021 was U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Miles, who was joined by his wife, Maria. Sgt. Miles was severely wounded in Afghanistan in 2007 when an improvised explosive device hit the vehicle he was in. Matthew miraculously survived, despite sustaining a number of devastating injuries. In August 2021, Miles and his wife, Maria, and their three children moved into a new home in Texas built by CCF’s Carrington House program. For the REACT event, Sgt. Miles and Maria spoke at length about the difference CCF and the Carrington House program has made in their lives.

“I have had to postpone surgeries because I didn’t have a truly accessible home where I was able to rehab properly and safely – and the process of trying to modify our existing home presented a major challenge,” Miles said. “I can’t thank the donors and CCF enough for our Carrington House home, and for creating a life-changing and life-altering opportunity for my family.”

The Carrington Charitable Foundation pledges to continue assisting Veteran heroes like Lt. Cmdr. Cox and Sgt. Miles and their families. To learn more about the Veterans whom CCF supports, please visit: carringtoncf.org/signature-programs.
