Battery Ventures Named to Inc.’s 2021 List of Founder-Friendly Investors

Annual roundup recognizes the top founder-friendly investors in venture capital and private equity

BOSTON & SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Earlier this week, Inc. announced its third annual Founder-Friendly Investors list, honoring the private equity and venture capital firms with the best track record of providing helpful support to founders and entrepreneurs as they scale their businesses.

Battery Ventures, a global, technology-focused investment firm, was recognized on both the venture capital and private equity lists. Battery makes investments across stages, from seed-stage to buyout, from six strategic locations around the world.

The final list recognizes 146 firms that, according to Inc., entrepreneurs can trust and collaborate with while receiving the financial support they need to help accelerate growth. All 146 have a track record of remaining actively involved in the businesses after their investment.

“Supporting an entrepreneur’s vision and driving growth is more than just a financial investment. It’s about building a relationship and supporting the founders beyond that initial year. These private equity firms treat the founders like partners,” says Scott Omelianuk, editor-in-chief of Inc. media.

“When we invest in a company, we view it as a partnership,” said Battery Ventures General Partner Chelsea Stoner. “We aim to bring the full resources of the firm to ensure each of our portfolio companies’ success. And because Battery practices a research-focused approach to investing—rather than a stage-specific approach—we also bring a deep understanding of our companies’ markets and years of experience supporting companies across all stages of maturity.”

In addition to the Battery general partners who serve as dedicated board members, all Battery portfolio companies are supported by investment-team members who are experts in specific technology sectors, as well as by professionals in Battery’s portfolio-services organization. This group focuses on helping portfolio companies grow and scale; it offers expertise in areas including talent, business development, sales, marketing and CEO coaching, as well as honing operational processes across finance, sales and M&A integration.

To compile the list, Inc. went straight to the source: entrepreneurs who have partnered with venture capitalists or sold to private equity. Founders filled out a questionnaire about their experiences partnering with the firms and shared data on how their companies have grown during these partnerships.

Introduced in 2019, the Founder-Friendly Private Equity Firms list quickly established itself as one of Inc.’s most resourceful franchises. It has become a go-to guide for entrepreneurs who want to grow their companies while retaining an ownership stake.
