TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, Sonderly, Geneva Centre for Autism’s online educational and training platform for Autism and Mental Health resources, announced it will offer its “Understanding and Supporting Students with Autism” course to educators free of charge in celebration of World Teacher’s Day on October 5. Sonderly’s two-hour introductory course will be available complimentary from September 29 to October 9 and will provide teachers with a deepened understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and guidelines for how to support a variety of learners in the classroom. Canadians can access the course on Sonderly’s website and will receive lifetime access to the material.
“We recognize the essential role that teachers play in providing effective education for all students, including those with ASD,” says Bahar Miraftab, Director Marketing and Communication, Sonderly. “The pandemic has significantly impacted the way educators connect with their learners, so we wanted to give back to that community by equipping them with tools they can use in both in-person and in virtual settings. We look forward to celebrating teachers and providing them with easy-to-use strategies to create more inclusive classrooms across the country.”
The “Understanding and Supporting Students with Autism” course will prepare educators with tips to better support students with sensory sensitivities, guidelines for setting appropriate goals for their learners, and considerations for implementing proactive and reactive teaching strategies. The course includes concrete examples for educators in a classroom setting, and is also applicable to anyone who wishes to learn more about autism and supportive practices that will enrich the lives of students on the spectrum.
This limited-time offer comes on the heels of Sonderly’s recent launch of its new “Confronting the Mental Health Crisis in the Classroom” course, developed as a direct response to an increase in persistent and pervasive mental health crises among students.
