New York Daily News Announces Return of Richard Johnson to National Gossip Pages

America's Most Revered & Feared Columnist Is Back!

NEW YORK--()--The New York Daily News announces the return of Richard Johnson, who pioneered the modern gossip column at another New York City tabloid, as America’s most influential columnist. Beginning Friday, Johnson will be leaving retirement and rejoining the Daily News (where he worked briefly in the early 1990s) to reveal the most closely guarded secrets and unspeakable scandals of the power elite. His weekly column will go online Fridays and in print Sundays starting this Friday.

Johnson retired from gossip writing in 2019, nearly 40 years after bringing star power to Page Six at a crosstown rival – where he established himself as the most fearsome and best-sourced gossip reporter in the nation.

"I’m thrilled to rejoin the Daily News now that COVID is fading and the city is getting slowly back to normal. The city that never sleeps has been taking a little nap, but it’s waking up. There will be plenty to cover in the resurgence,” said Richard Johnson.

"We welcome Richard back to the News – our readers are going to enjoy getting a bold, behind-the-scenes look into the guarded lives of the rich and famous." said Robert York, Editor in Chief of the New York Daily News.

"Richard Johnson is a treasure, and we're proud to feature his wit and celebrity culture commentary on our sites and in our pages," said Frank Pine, Executive Editor of MediaNews Group and Tribune Publishing. "We promised to provide our readers the best in news and information, from coverage of politics and public safety to lifestyle and entertainment. We're doing that by seeking out talent, skill and creativity, all of which Richard has in abundance."
