Muck Rack Adds Newsletter Authors to Its Industry-Leading Media Database

New enhancements enable PR and communications teams to keep up with the fast-growing newsletter landscape

NEW YORK--()--Muck Rack today announced that it has added newsletter authors to its media database in order to help communications teams keep up with the fast-growing medium.

In recent years, newsletters have exploded in popularity among journalists and audiences alike. Many influential journalists, such as The Verge’s longtime Silicon Valley editor Casey Newton, former New Republic climate-change writer Emily Atkin and former Sports Illustrated staff writer Joan Niesen, have left their staff jobs to start newsletters. Traditional publications and digital-first outlets like Axios and Morning Brew have also embraced the format as a way to engage and build stronger relationships with their audiences.

Where journalists have gone, audiences have followed. According to the Reuters Institute’s Digital News Report, 21 percent of Americans and 16 percent of people globally have accessed news via email newsletter in the past week.

Substack, one of the most well-known newsletter publishing platforms, now has over 500,000 paying subscribers, and companies such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Medium have all launched (or soon plan to launch) newsletter publishing solutions.

“This is a vital media type for PR teams to engage with, especially since many journalists and writers looking for greater creative, editorial and financial control are leaving traditional media to start their own newsletter ventures,” says Muck Rack CEO and co-founder Greg Galant. “Up until now, though, it’s been challenging for PR and journalists alike to keep up with this fast-evolving landscape.”

Muck Rack customers can now discover newsletter authors based on not just the topics they cover but keywords and phrases in the articles and Tweets they’ve published. They can then add relevant newsletter authors to media lists, send personalized pitches, see past relationship history and automatically track their team’s activity.
