Digital Currency Group Appoints Michael Kraines as Chief Financial Officer

Kraines joins DCG after serving as President and CFO of Trading Technologies

DCG’s first-ever CFO brings more than 25 years of experience in the financial technology sector

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Digital Currency Group (DCG), a global enterprise that builds, buys, and invests in blockchain companies, today announced the appointment of its first-ever Chief Financial Officer, Michael Kraines, effective immediately. Kraines joins DCG from Trading Technologies, where he served as President and CFO.

Kraines brings over 25 years of financial technology expertise to the firm, with deep experience in the market structure sector both as an investment banker and as an operator. In these capacities, Kraines has advised a wide array of companies across the financial services landscape on business combinations, capital raises, strategic partnerships, and growth-oriented business development. As Chief Financial Officer of DCG, Kraines will oversee all the company’s financial operations, M&A activity, and corporate development efforts. He will also support the continued growth of DCG’s operating subsidiaries and expand its relationships within the larger institutional community.

“I am thrilled to announce Michael as part of the DCG leadership team, as he brings both relevant sector expertise and highly complementary hands-on experience to the role,” said DCG founder and CEO Barry Silbert. “Michael has spent his entire career working in the FinTech sector and has really seen it all from an industry perspective. His stellar reputation and recognition within the industry will be invaluable as we continue to scale DCG.”

“Having been a part of the FinTech sector through several iterations, I can’t think of a more exciting time as crypto becomes increasingly mainstream and a critical part of the institutional community,” said Kraines. “Given its leading role in the development of valuable crypto offerings across the financial services ecosystem, I am delighted to join DCG to help accelerate its growth and positive impact on the industry. I also look forward to increasing the opportunity for DCG to foster a deeper series of conversations regarding the future of crypto across the institutional community.”

Previously Kraines served as President and CFO of Trading Technologies. Prior to that role, he spent over two decades in investment banking focusing on the financial technology sector as Managing Director at Sandler O’Neill + Partners and Wasserstein Perella & Co. Kraines began his career as a venture capital attorney with Kirkland & Ellis LLP. He earned a B.A. with distinction from Cornell University, a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School.
