Welldoc Expands Chronic Condition Platform to Include Behavioral Health

Derived from clinical evidence and experience building Welldoc’s digital solutions, new offering complements existing programs for diabetes, hypertension, heart failure and diabetes prevention

COLUMBIA, Md.--()--Welldoc®, a trailblazer in digital health that is revolutionizing chronic condition management to help transform lives, today announced the launch of a new behavioral health offering designed to help users develop skills to solve real-world problems in a structured way. The strategies adapted for use in the offering were derived from clinical knowledge and years of experience building award-winning digital health solutions for diabetes, (Type 1 and Type 2), hypertension, heart failure and diabetes prevention. The new behavioral health program will be available as part of Welldoc’s single platform offering for chronic condition and population health management.

“By applying our extensive experience modifying behaviors for large populations of users that are self-managing chronic conditions, we are adding a level of clinical rigor to our program not often found in today’s digital health solutions,” said Keith Reynolds, Chief Operating Officer at Welldoc. “Expanding our digital health platform to include behavioral health will undoubtedly add value for our partners who are looking for comprehensive population health solutions that address chronic conditions, either as a private label product or under the Welldoc name. With COVID creating new challenges for healthcare providers and payors, now more than ever our clients and members need the support of our single platform for holistic chronic condition management.”

According to the Center for Diseases Control (CDC), an estimated 50% of all Americans will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some point in their lifetime. The new behavioral health product helps users to identify a problem, select a strategy, build an action plan and receive support. It also incorporates multiple evidence-based strategies that help users address various concerns. These strategies:

  • enhance a user's problem-solving abilities,
  • improve social skills,
  • reduce anxiety,
  • help with sleep,
  • stimulate activation,
  • and help change negative assumptions which can impair wellness and success in personal or professional settings.

“The time has come for translating the evidence based approaches psychologists and other mental health professionals have developed over the years into a digital format,” said Dr. Edwin Fisher, a clinical psychologist and professor at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. “With Welldoc’s expertise in digital transformation and delivery, this offering should help many people, especially during these difficult times.”

Welldoc’s award-winning digital health solution for diabetes is backed by eight 510(k)s and includes a comprehensive platform with education, real-time feedback and an Insulin Adjustment program. The platform is device agnostic, allowing for seamless integration with a patient’s existing blood glucose meters, pharmacies, labs, activity and fitness trackers. In addition, Welldoc partners have access to hypertension, heart failure and diabetes prevention programs as part of a comprehensive platform offering.
