Vizient Announces Expansion of Supplier Diversity Program to Include Businesses Owned by People from LGBT, Disabled Communities

IRVING, Texas--()--Vizient, Inc. today announced its Supplier Diversity Program for national contract opportunities now includes businesses owned by people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender as well as businesses owned by people with a disability. The announcement marks the expansion of its Supplier Diversity Program from minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses and includes not just supplier contracts for Vizient’s member hospitals, but for Vizient corporate purchases as well.

In order to be considered for a supplier diversity contract award, suppliers’ ownership must be independently certified by an LGBT or disability association recognized by Vizient, be registered with the Supplier Diversity Program and meet other category criteria set forth by Vizient. The disability category includes businesses owned by service-disabled veterans, veterans with a disability that is not service related and anyone with a disability.

“This expansion aligns with Vizient’s commitment to diversity and inclusion,” said Bharat Sundaram, president and chief operating officer of Vizient. “We are proud of our diverse workforce and, moreover, recognize the diversity of our members’ teams and the communities they serve. We want our supplier partners to reflect this diversity as well.”

The Supplier Diversity Program helps Vizient member hospitals achieve their diversity and inclusion goals by enabling them to track spending in this category. Vizient member hospitals can access data, tools and resources to find registered diverse suppliers. The program helps streamline purchasing opportunities with diverse suppliers in both tier 1 (primary source) and tier 2 (secondary source) categories.
