TIA Announces New VP of Government Affairs, Melissa Newman

Newman Brings Over Twenty Years of Telecommunications Experience

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, today announced that Melissa Newman was hired to serve as the Vice President of Government Affairs. Newman brings extensive experience in the telecommunications industry, most recently serving as the VP of External Affairs and Senior Legal Counsel at Transit Wireless.

Newman will lead TIA’s public policy strategy to support legislative and regulatory initiatives.

“Melissa’s legal and policy experience combined with her deep understanding of the telecommunications industry will make her an extremely valuable asset to TIA, and at a critical time, as our industry is rapidly evolving,” said CEO David Stehlin. “We’re thrilled to welcome her to TIA as we continue to expand our advocacy efforts on behalf of our members.”

Prior to her time at Transit Wireless, Newman served as Counsel at Wilkinson Barker Knauer, Vice President, Federal Policy and Regulatory at CenturyLink/Qwest/US West and Deputy Division Chief of the Policy Division in the Common Carrier Bureau of the FCC. She also served as Legal Counsel to the Common Carrier Bureau Chief and practiced communications law as an associate at the law firm of Willkie Farr & Gallagher. She holds a J.D. from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri.
