Comerica Bank and the National Guard Partner With Local Businesswoman & TWEF Founder, Deavra Daughtry to Help Underserved Communities Get Tested for COVID-19

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Program Sponsor, Comerica Bank, and Texas Women Empowerment Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit held a successful mobile testing drive for COVID-19 at the TWEF Empowerment Center located at 8333 Sweetwater Lane: The DON'T GIVE IT DON'T GET IT campaign, in conjunction with Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee & partners Mayor Sylvester Turner, the United States National Guard, State Farm, HEB, Southwest Airlines and SoulFitGrill. Volunteers and organizers distributed free backpacks, mask kits, household sanitizing products, and food vouchers. Free COVID-19 testing was handled by The National Guard. DON'T GIVE IT DON'T GET IT is part of an ongoing campaign started by TWEF founder, Deavra Daughtry.
Daughtry: “COVID -19 has made life different but together we will continue to rise to the occasion and win the war by staying mentally strong, caring for others and walking daily in a place of gratitude and thanksgiving.”

TWEF has served over 6000 families during the COVID pandemic by hosting drive-thru giveaways, PPE events, and weekly digital & virtual conferences to help fight against the spread of COVID.

Irvin Ashford Jr., Comerica Bank Chief Community Officer says partnering with TWEF is helping make his bank a stronger one in the community: “TWEF remains one of the leading organizations responding to the critical needs of the most vulnerable populations in the greater Houston area. Comerica is fortunate to have such a great partner on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, helping us to identify and address the social and economic barriers in under-resourced zip codes through our community investments. Our strategic partnership with TWEF allows us to raise expectations of what a bank can be in the communities we serve.”

Daughtry says TWEF, Comerica, and the other sponsors will continue their work to fight against this insidious virus until it's eradicated.

More free testing is planned this summer.
