Landmark Donates $150,000 to Charities that Support Black Communities

Long-term action and sustained transformation are needed to build an equitable society

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.--()--In June, Landmark promised to take action to fight injustice, inequality and discrimination. Today, we show our support for our black employees, patients and communities through a financial donation of $150,000, split equally amongst three charities supporting black communities and selected by Landmark employees.

“Black lives matter and we knew we needed to do more than share words of solidarity at this pivotal moment in our nation’s history,” says Landmark CEO Nick Loporcaro. “Meaningful and lasting change is long overdue. I am proud of our employees who raised their voices and came together to help guide our collective response as an organization – more than 1,000 votes were cast to select donation recipients.”

Landmark is donating $50,000 to each of the following three organizations:

  • Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) - A private, nonprofit organization that provides legal representation to people who have been illegally convicted, unfairly sentenced, or abused in state jails and prisons. EJI also works with communities that have been marginalized by poverty and discouraged by unequal treatment.
  • Minds Matter – Los Angeles Chapter - Helps academically achieving students from low-income families achieve their dream of a college education, with 100 percent of students being accepted into a four-year college. The Los Angeles chapter of Minds Matter launched in 2010 and has grown to serve 65 students enrolled in the three-year tutoring program.
  • NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund (LDF) - A nonprofit legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice.

In an effort to invest in sustained transformation over the long term, Landmark recently created a new function and hired a head of Employee Experience and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer. The function will help drive Landmark’s organizational change strategies, focusing on curating the employee experience and reinforcing our already strong commitment to all Landmark employees by leveraging a focused DEI mindset. The function will also partner with Landmark’s clinical team as we continue to improve the cultural sensitivity and efficacy of the care we provide to our diverse patient population.
