Lunchbox CEO and Co-Founder Nabeel Alamgir Recognized in Crain’s New York Business “20 In Their 20s” List

Alamgir has emerged as a force in the restaurant industry by helping restaurants reclaim ownership of their digital ecosystems

NEW YORK--()--Lunchbox, the next-gen enterprise platform that’s simplifying digital ordering for restaurants, today announces that CEO and Co-Founder Nabeel Alamgir has been included in the recently announced Crain’s New York Business “20 In Their 20s” list. Alamgir joins several young leaders with this distinction who have made an impact in the New York business landscape over the past year. Over the last year, Lunchbox has secured a seed round of $2MM and has caught the eye of industry leaders with Doordash having previously expressed interest in purchasing the innovative company.

“It's a great honor to be recognized alongside these other talented people," says Alamgir. "We started Lunchbox out of frustration, after witnessing for years the injustices that third-party marketplaces like Grubhub and Ubereats were causing in the restaurant industry. Our mission is to equip restaurants with next-gen online ordering products that drive sales and engagement through powerful growth marketing tools, to help create stronger relationships with their guests.”

After immigrating to the United States as a teenager from Bangladesh, Alamgir has spent his American life in the restaurant industry. He began as the first busboy at Bareburger, a New York-based better-burger chain, where he eventually rose to lead the marketing and technology departments as Chief Marketing Officer at age 25. As CMO, he helped Bareburger expand from 5 locations in New York to over 40 locations across the world, and developed a tech-stack that defined the brand as a leader in restaurant-tech adoption.

In his experience working in the restaurant industry, Alamgir experienced first-hand the increased use of digital ordering and how third-party marketplaces increasingly became more predatorial. Companies like GrubHub continue to scale their fees as high as 30%, creating incredible financial strain on restaurants, while simultaneously maintaining market pressure to stay on the platform. Growing tired of limited options, Alamgir partnered with Andrew Boryk to co-found Lunchbox, helping restaurants reclaim their digital ordering capabilities. Lunchbox now works with industry-leading restaurants like Bareburger, Mexicue, Sticky’s Finger Joint, and World-Famous Chef David Chang's Fuku.

Lunchbox recently brought on Sarah Kabakoff, a former Toast Director, as their VP of Solutions in order to further optimize the platform and develop new offerings. Lunchbox plans to expand significantly in 2020 and continue to pave the way for restaurants as they continue to reopen.
