Reliant Donates $100,000 to DFW Nonprofits Providing Critical COVID-19 Aid

—Funds will directly provide food, rent, medical support and other basic resources needed to families and individuals facing hardship—

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Continuing support for Texas communities impacted by COVID-19, Reliant announced today a donation of $100,000 to be shared by four local DFW organizations that are providing critical resources to communities in the metroplex.

As part of Reliant’s continued COVID-19 support across the state of Texas and parent company, NRG Energy, Inc.’s $2 million donation to pandemic relief efforts, the contribution will help provide food, mortgage and rent assistance, senior services, medical and dental services and job resources.

“Reliant is dedicated to helping our fellow Texans during this uncertain time and making sure our communities have access to the basic necessities they critically need,” said Elizabeth Killinger, president, Reliant. “We are incredibly moved by the work local nonprofits are doing to help care for our neighbors, and we are honored to help light the way by supporting these crucial services.”

The $100,000 donation will be split equally among the following organizations, which are critical resource centers for Texas communities:

  • $25,000 to GRACE in Grapevine, which has focused efforts during COVID-19 on its food pantry, community clinic, senior services, transitional housing and client services, increasing the number of families served by six times compared to last year.
  • $25,000 to Metrocrest Services, which saw a 293% increase in pantry visits during the month of April and a 268% increase in rental assistance requests.
  • $25,000 to Mission Arlington, an organization focused on the emergency needs of families who have lost jobs or have reduced hours during the pandemic. Since March, the nonprofit has seen a 30% increase in assistance given to the community.
  • $25,000 to Network of Community Ministries, which is providing food (including food pantry pick-up, weekend meal boxes to RISD schools and senior home deliveries), housing assistance, and virtual job coaching services during the COVID-19 response within the 14 zip codes that make up Richardson ISD in Dallas County.

Facing increased demand since the onset of the pandemic, these organizations provide essential assistance to their communities and have not yet received funding from the region’s relief funds.

Reliant’s donation comes on the heels of the company’s recent $100,000 contribution to Baylor Scott & White Health, which will support its MyBSWHealth mobile app that is aiding in the fight against COVID-19. Last month, Reliant also donated $25,000 to the MedStar Mobile Healthcare Foundation in support of DFW-area first responders.

In addition to statewide nonprofit support, Reliant is working with customers across Texas to ensure they have the power they need, regardless of hardships endured from this crisis, with payment plans and additional relief. Visit reliant.com/care for more information.
