Koskie Minsky Commences Class Proceeding Against Government of Ontario For Long Term Care Home Negligence
TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Koskie Minsky LLP has served notice on the Province of Ontario that it will be commencing a class proceeding on behalf of all Ontarians who reside in long-term care homes. It will be alleged that Ontario's failures in overseeing long-term care homes have resulted in widespread and avoidable illness, suffering and loss of life during the COVID-19 epidemic.
The claim will allege that Ontario was negligent and it breached the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Kirk Baert, a partner at Koskie Minsky, has stated "for too long, the elderly and invalid have been ignored in this province. Now that it is faced with a health crisis, Ontario's failures are on full display. It is the most vulnerable members of society, and their families, who are facing the consequences."
