The St. Joe Community Foundation Approves Local Grants Totalling $297,340 in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic

WATERSOUND, Fla.--()--The St. Joe Community Foundation (“Foundation”) has approved grants to local nonprofit organizations totaling $297,340 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. With these grants, the Foundation is able to provide funding for the purchase of much-needed testing supplies and personal protective equipment for three Northwest Florida health care providers.

The largest of this recent round of grants was awarded to the Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation in the amount of $200,000. The Ascension Sacred Heart Foundation will use this grant to purchase personal protective equipment for the front line medical staff working at Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast in Miramar Beach, Ascension Sacred Heart Bay in Panama City and Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf in Port St. Joe. “This grant for personal protective equipment for our hospital associates demonstrates the strong partnership our hospitals have with The St. Joe Foundation in this time of a global pandemic," said Roger Hall, President of Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast and Ascension Gulf Coast Hospitals. “We have distributed the proper personal protective equipment so we can continue to safely serve our communities while protecting the health and safety of our associates.”

Additionally, the Foundation awarded a $62,340 grant to PanCare of Florida, Inc. (“PanCare”) for COVID-19 testing supplies for Bay and Walton Counties. PanCare, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in Panama City, Florida, has established a network of professionals providing a comprehensive system of quality health care services. Over the past several weeks PanCare has established several COVID-19 testing sites in Northwest Florida.

A grant in the amount of $35,000 was awarded to the Point Washington Medical Clinic. The free clinic in Santa Rosa Beach, which is an outreach ministry from the Point Washington United Methodist Church, will use the funds to purchase personal protective equipment as well as coronavirus testing supplies.

“Health care has always been one of the four cornerstones of the St. Joe Community Foundation,” said April Wilkes, the Foundation’s Executive Director. “With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Northwest Florida, we’ve seen the nature of the requests of the Foundation focus on the healthcare needs of our communities, particularly those of our healthcare providers. We are thrilled be able to award grants to these local organizations that are helping our communities through this challenging time.”

The Foundation is engaged in discussions with several local organizations regarding COVID-19 testing ideas and solutions and it continues to receive grant requests related to COVID-19. “We will continue to respond to COVID-19-related grant requests as we receive them and we encourage organizations working on solutions to the issues that our communities are currently facing to reach out to the Foundation and apply for a grant.”
