Cooley Boosts Tech Transactions Group in New York

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Leonard Jacoby has joined Cooley as a partner in its technology transactions group. He will be based in Cooley’s New York office. Previously, he was a partner at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where he built and led its global transactional IP practice.

“Len’s ability to spearhead the most sophisticated corporate and IP-driven transactions for leading companies and private equity firms makes him a rare and valuable asset not just in the New York legal market, but nationally and internationally as well,” said Mike Lincoln, partner and chair of Cooley’s global business department. “His arrival in New York is a testament to the caliber of lateral partners choosing to become part of our firm.”

Jacoby has significant experience advising companies, private equity firms, sovereign wealth funds and investment banks on the intellectual property and technology aspects of mergers and acquisitions, spinoffs and divestitures, joint ventures, investments, public offerings and other corporate transactions. He advises clients on important and complicated deals and related strategic considerations that involve technology, data, brands and content. Jacoby has depth across a broad spectrum of industries and sectors, including information and communications technology, internet platforms, software, artificial intelligence, life sciences, autonomous vehicles, robotics, manufacturing, industrial goods, financial services and fintech, media, food and beverages, and consumer goods.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with many Cooley lawyers over the years,” said Jacoby. “Cooley’s stellar reputation and leadership in intellectual property and technology matters, comprehensive and integrated platform, and proven strategy for growth is a compelling opportunity. I’m excited to join their team.”

“Len’s experience advising emerging and established companies lends itself perfectly to our practice,” said Keith Berets, Cooley partner and head of its technology transactions group. “We’re thrilled to add his skills to our team as we continue to guide clients on some of the most high-profile and complex deals.”

Jacoby graduated from Yale University and earned his JD from Harvard Law School. He is admitted to practice in New York and Massachusetts. Jacoby also holds a certificate in cybersecurity oversight from Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute and is a certified information privacy professional under the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
