Entegris Receives Excellence Award for Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) at Manufacturing Facility in Malaysia

The company focuses on continuous improvement and commits substantial resources to fund its programs to keep its employees healthy and safe.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Entegris, a world-class materials company delivering innovative, science-based solutions for the microelectronics and other high technology industries, announced today that it has received a safety excellence award from the Malaysian National Council for Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH). The award, which is the highest safety award a company can receive in Malaysia, was presented to Entegris at a ceremony on Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, after a six-month evaluation process.

According to Derek Ong, managing director of Entegris Malaysia, who accepted the award, Entegris has an exceptionally strong commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its employees. “We want everyone in our facility to own safety. Our leadership team’s behaviors provide daily examples of how to work safely while our employees on the manufacturing floor take actions every day to ensure their workplace is healthy and safe. Together, we keep our focus on continuous improvement through weekly management meetings, safety Gemba walks to celebrate successes and to identify areas for improvement, employee safety training, two-minute safety briefings during every shift, and safety promotional campaigns,” he said.

Over 950 employees work In the Kulim facility, which is a state-of-the art facility that develops systems and products to ensure the clean and safe delivery of the microelectronic components used in semiconductor manufacturing processes and other high technology industries. It is Entegris’ largest manufacturing site and is a part of the company’s Advanced Materials Handling (AMH) Division.

According to Mike Lloyd, AMH vice president of operations, among the aspects of the company’s health and safety program that received recognition from NCOSH were 1) senior management’s involvement in all safety matters, 2) the company’s substantial commitment of resources to fund its health and safety programs, 3) the company’s system for tracking incidents, and 4) its proactive reporting metrics.

“While the company and the management team make health and safety a top priority, it is our employees whose efforts during every hour of their workday make our facility a healthy and safe workplace,” Lloyd said.

To motivate and encourage employees, Ong tells them “to work safely not because of management or specific performance measurements, but so you can return home healthy every day to your families.”

In addition, the company has a recognition program that rewards employees who make suggestions for safety improvements, demonstrate good safety behavior, address safety issues, and coach other employees on safety issues. Employees also engage in a community outreach program that promotes health and safety for children that includes First Aid training.
