Windstream Enterprise OfficeSuite UC Solution Is Kari’s Law-compliant

Federal law requires businesses to enable direct-dial access to 911

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Windstream Enterprise (WE), a managed communications service provider, is pleased to announce its OfficeSuite UC® services are fully compliant with the federal Kari’s Law in all 50 states.

In 2019, Windstream embarked on its project to change the dial plans for all OfficeSuite UC customers to ensure compliance with Kari’s Law, which requires interconnected Voice over IP providers (VoIP) to enable dialing of emergency services, such as 911, without the need for any special prefix digit or code.

The federal law gave communications providers until Feb. 16, 2020, to become compliant. However, Windstream finished its rollout and notified its OfficeSuite UC customers in October 2019.

“Ensuring our communications solutions provide individuals with the ability to reach help when it’s needed, is something that Windstream Enterprise takes seriously,” said Austin Herrington, vice president of product management at Windstream. “Windstream is fully committed to enhancing its 911 service capabilities with OfficeSuite UC, starting with Kari’s Law and pending requirements of Ray Baum’s Act, due January 2021.”

All OfficeSuite UC customers can dial 911 without the need to enter any prefix to obtain an outside line. All emergency calls are routed directly to the appropriate Public-Safety Answering Point (PSAP).

Furthermore, as part of being compliant, Windstream has enabled alerts to be sent whenever any user in the customer’s organization dials 911 for emergency services. Alerts are typically sent to a security office so that on-site personnel can respond even before emergency service arrives or provide assistance when first responders arrive. Customers can configure recipients of alerts via the OfficeSuite UC portal.

In addition to OfficeSuite UC, our Mitel and Avaya UCaaS solutions are also compliant, giving us the flexibility to provide our customers with the right solution for their needs as well as the safety requirements required by Kari’s Law.
