Bayer Continues to Earn Top Marks in 2020 Corporate Equality Index

Company earns 100 percent on Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 18th Annual Scorecard on LGBTQ Workplace Equality

WHIPPANY, N.J.--()--For the third consecutive year, Bayer U.S. received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2020 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s premier benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation.

We are so proud to be recognized year after year by the HRC,” said Phil Blake, President of Bayer U.S. “This nationwide survey and report showcases our commitment to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of inclusion. Creating an environment where our employees are able to fulfill their full potential, while harnessing their diverse backgrounds, perspectives and experiences, makes us stronger.”

Bayer offers a variety of resources and benefits that provide an inclusive work environment, such as transgender-inclusive health care coverage, parity between same- and different-sex couple benefits, external advocacy for LGBT+ equality, and ally educational programs.

One vital part of the company’s diversity and inclusion efforts is its employee resource groups. In particular, BLEND, Bayer’s global community for lesbian, gay, straight, bisexual and transgender employees and their allies, provides a voice to colleagues and advocates for openness and respect for all employees.

In our time with the company holding various roles in different divisions, we can both attest to Bayer’s commitment to inclusion and diversity,” said Rich Shields and Bonnie Finger, BLEND’s U.S. Co-Leads for Bayer. “This rating by HRC is evidence of that commitment. We both have examples in our respective organizations where inclusive policies and procedures go beyond just words about hiring or benefits and create an inclusive culture for LGBT+ employees, truly making Bayer a great place to work.”

The 2020 CEI evaluates each company within five broad categories, including LGBTQ-related policies and practices, employment benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. Bayer’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria earned a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

The impact of the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index over its 18-year history is profound,” said HRC President Alphonso David. “In this time, the corporate community has worked with us to adopt LGBTQ-inclusive policies, practices and benefits, establishing the Corporate Equality Index as a primary driving force for LGBTQ workplace inclusion in America and across the globe.”

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
