CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Urology Times®, the leading multimedia platform for urologists and allied health professionals, revealed the results of its 14th annual State of the Specialty survey. The survey of nearly 200 urologists highlights the top challenges and concerns facing professionals in the specialty, including a steady decline in reimbursement, increased government regulation and a rising burnout rate.

More than 85% of urologists polled agree or strongly agree that they used to enjoy being a physician more than they do now, citing a less financially lucrative climate and added stress as the main reasons for this shift. Additionally, 53% of respondents report that they consider themselves burned out, while another 25% state that they are likely to become burned out in the future.
This dissatisfaction may also be manifesting in the form of early retirement plans, with nearly 17% of respondents actively considering retirement within two years, while approximately 31% have made nonspecific plans to retire in five to 10 years.
However, when asked if they would still choose to work in the field of urology if given the chance to start over today, an overwhelming 78% responded “yes.”
