Lightbits Labs Wins Bronze Award as Startup of the Year in the 14th Annual 2019 IT World Awards®

Just months after emerging from stealth, Lightbits secures win as Information Technology Cloud/SaaS provider; awards ceremony slated for October

KFAR SABA, Israel, and SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--Just four months after emerging from stealth mode and launching its first products, Lightbits Labs announced today that Network Products Guide, the industry’s leading technology research and advisory guide, has named it the Bronze winner as Information Technology Cloud/SaaS Startup of the Year in the 14th Annual 2019 IT World Awards®. These industry and peer recognitions from Network Products Guide are the world’s premier information technology awards honoring achievements and recognitions in every facet of the IT industry.

Lightbits earned this recognition for its work in delivering a unique scale-out software-defined storage solution purpose-built for cloud infrastructure. Early on, Lightbits recognized that cloud infrastructure requires a different approach than traditional enterprise infrastructure. Most notably, cloud-scale data centers require disaggregation of storage and compute, as evidenced by the top cloud giants’ transition from inefficient direct-attached SSD architecture to low-latency shared flash. The Lightbits team pioneered NVMe/TCP so their solution is easy to deploy at scale, while delivering performance that is indistinguishable from direct-attached SSDs.

Lightbits’ software splits storage and compute over standard networks, allowing them to scale independently to drive up infrastructure utilization and lower total cost of ownership (TCO) while providing unparalleled flexibility. Lightbits has built a series of solutions around NVMe/TCP: LightOS®, LightField™ and SuperSSD. The software solution, LightOS, can easily aggregate and manage clusters as one large cloud-scale block storage solution to guarantee service and data availability during transient or permanent failovers. In stark contrast to other NVMe-oF solutions, the Lightbits NVMe/TCP disaggregation solution is entirely on the target side, without touching the network infrastructure or data center clients. With NVMe/TCP, Lightbits delivers the same IOPS as direct-attached NVMe SSDs with up to a 50% reduction in tail latency.

The coveted annual IT World Awards program draws entries from a broad spectrum of industry voices and encompasses the world’s best in organizational performance, products and services, hot technologies, executives and management teams, successful deployments, product management and engineering, customer satisfaction, and public relations in every area of information technology. Judges from around the world participated and their average scores determined the 2019 award winners. Winners will be honored in San Francisco on Monday, October 28, 2019 during the SVUS Red Carpet Awards Ceremony Dinner in San Francisco attended by the finalists, winners, judges and industry peers.

“Earning this important IT World Award for our role in the emerging NVME/TCP-based storage market truly shows the breadth of Lightbits’ impact on one of the industry’s most important sectors,” said Eran Kirzner, CEO of Lightbits Labs. “It’s quite gratifying to receive this highly regarded industry award showcasing our position as a company poised to successfully overcome the challenges of today’s storage-intensive applications with simple and efficient scaled-out storage solutions. We also extend our congratulations to the other winners in our category, Apptega Inc., WireWheel, and Knecto LLC.”
