SAN PEDRO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Southern California-based Motor Press Guild, the world’s largest motoring press organization, has announced details of its upcoming Drive Day event. For the first time, the event will include a significant charity component. All proceeds from the event, now subtitled Miles 4 Miles, will go to auto journalist and MPG member Miles Branman, who was seriously injured in an accident caused by a drunk driver. Since the accident, Branman’s injuries have prevented him from working at his craft while resulting in extensive medical expenses far beyond his insurance coverage.
The daylong driving event will be held on Tuesday, September 17, at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu. It will include the opportunity to drive, test, and evaluate numerous new 2019 and 2020 model-year vehicles on the beautiful and challenging roads surrounding the ranch. Each test and evaluation mile driven by an MPG member participant will increase the proceeds going to Branman, thanks to the per-mile contributions of participating vehicle manufacturers. Associated activities during the event will enable additional contributions to the cause.
“We at Motor Press Guild are gratified that we can help to contribute to something so worthwhile,” said MPG President Amelia Dalgaard. “Our goal is always to serve the members of the organization, so when the idea of helping Miles was presented to us, we immediately said ‘yes we will.’”
In addition to the “Miles 4 Miles” driving portion of the event, it will also include a silent auction, featuring donated automotive-related swag, books, and memorabilia. A special “Supercar Drive” will enable a select few who donate a set fee to the cause to drive and evaluate a very special high-end vehicle for a specific period of time during the course of the Drive Day event.
For those who are not MPG members, there is still time to join (or rejoin) the organization prior to the September 17 event. If you cannot attend but would like to participate, a commemorative T-shirt will be available for sale through MPG, with proceeds going to Branman.
