Zipwhip Successfully Completes SOC 2 Type 1 Examination to Provide Strengthened Security Across Texting-for-Business Platform

Industry pioneer continues to lead texting-for-business industry, setting precedent for security and privacy

SEATTLE--()--Zipwhip, the leading provider of texting for business, today announced the successful completion of its Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 Type 1 examination. The audit affirms that Zipwhip’s information security practices, policies, procedures and operations meet the SOC 2 standards for security.

Established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), SOC 2 examinations are recognized as the gold standard for data security. Completing the SOC 2 Type 1 examination validates that Zipwhip practices strict information security requirements as outlined within the AICPA’s Trust Services Criteria’s security requirements.

Texting has become one of the most significant communications channels between businesses and their customers, but as a relatively new industry, few other providers have completed SOC 2 Type 1 examinations. As the original creator of texting for business, Zipwhip continues to be a positive influence on the industry’s evolution, and its completion of the SOC 2 Type 1 examination illustrates the company’s commitment to the highest level of service and security excellence.

"We are dedicated to providing the best service possible to our customers. That extends beyond just how they use our product or interact with our employees into how they can trust that their data and information is safe,” said John Lauer, co-founder and CEO, Zipwhip. "The reality is that we live in an environment where tighter data security is no longer an option, it’s a necessity. Completing our SOC 2 Type 1 examination is critical in giving our customers the peace of mind they deserve, and it highlights our unwavering commitment to maintaining a high-quality operating environment."

Zipwhip worked alongside international consulting firm RSM and leading accounting and compliance firm Schellman & Company, LLC to complete the rigorous examination and affirm the organization’s security practices, policies, procedures and operations meet SOC 2 standards.

“SOC 2 examinations are voluntary assessments in which service providers are put through a thorough and rigorous analysis of the commitments and controls governing the services they provide,” said Douglas Barbin, principal, western US, Schellman & Company, LLC. “Zipwhip worked diligently to showcase its security practices along with the implementation of new and effective controls to meet the AICPA Trust Services Criteria, all with the goal of better protecting the security and privacy of its customers.”

Zipwhip’s achievement of the SOC 2 Type 1 examination marks continued momentum for the company, including ranking sixth on Seattle Business Magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For and 29th in the U.S. on Comparably’s Best CEOs for Women. Zipwhip also recently appointed Faye Ricci to its executive team as general counsel and senior vice president.
