Biocom Appoints Additional Members to Board of Directors

SAN DIEGO--()--Biocom, the association representing the California life science industry, today announced that it has added Matt Abernethy, chief financial officer of Neurocrine Biosciences, and Sabrina Martucci Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Daré Biosciences, to its board of directors.

“Mr. Abernethy’s in-depth knowledge in healthcare finance coupled with Ms. Johnson’s extensive experience as a life science executive, will provide the Biocom board with new insights and perspectives as we continue to develop innovative programs that support the diverse needs of our members throughout the state,” said Joe Panetta, president and CEO of Biocom. “Mr. Abernethy and Ms. Johnson represent two sectors on the frontier of innovation within the life science industry—neuroscience and women’s healthcare, respectively—and will be instrumental as members of our board.”

Mr. Abernethy was appointed chief financial officer of Neurocrine in November 2017 and is responsible for leading corporate finance activities and commercial supply chain operations, as well as information technology and investor relations functions. Mr. Abernethy has over 15 years of experience in the financial sector and investor relations with expertise in the healthcare industry.

Ms. Johnson founded Daré Bioscience Operations Inc. in 2015 and has served as president, chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors since its inception and following its business combination with Cerulean Pharma Inc., when the company was renamed Daré Bioscience. Previously, Ms. Johnson held multiple titles at WomanCare Global Trading, a specialty pharmaceutical company in female reproductive healthcare with commercial product distribution in over 100 countries, including president, chief financial officer, chief operating officer and before that served as chief financial and chief operating officer at Cypress Bioscience.
