NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Barton Malow, a Michigan-based contractor, has tapped James Morrison, PMP, LEED AP BD+C, to head their Business Development efforts in Nashville. With a decade of experience under his belt, Morrison is no stranger to success in the Architecture, Real Estate and Construction industry.
His desire to make an impact through building was seen at an early age. His mother worked at an art museum while his father was a residential contractor. “I had a unique childhood: I grew up renovating houses with my dad and then going to art camp over the summer,” reflects Morrison. This interest eventually led him to pursue his undergraduate degree in Architecture at the University of Memphis, and subsequently his Master of Architecture degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
His career began as an intern architect and entrepreneur, where he worked on construction documents, models, renderings, site plans and more for other AEC professionals. This, combined with his adjunct professor role at Nashville’s ITT Technical Institute, where he taught civil design and architecture, sharpened his skillset further in the built environment.
“But even with my knowledge in the technical aspects of our industry, my interests always gravitated toward the management and business side,” says Morrison. This led him to a Project Manager Role at Nashville’s CBRE. There, he led projects ranging from $50,000 to over $100 million, showcasing his versatility. This included the management of a multi-million-dollar innovation center for Mars Petcare and preconstruction management of the 31-story Bridgestone Tower, which included over 500,000 square feet of office space. Next, Morrison’s career path led him to Nashville based construction firm, R.G. Anderson Company, to manage mutli-million dollar multi-family projects and lead their business development efforts.
Now in his new role as Senior Business Development Manager, Morrison is ready to hit the ground running. “Nashville is gaining massive momentum; it’s a hot market for new work,” he says. “What makes Barton Malow unique is our strength in establishing meaningful relationships, demonstrating a competitive advantage and showcasing our innovative spirit,” Morrison continues. Though Barton Malow is relatively new to the Nashville market, he’s excited about the endless possibilities presented by this position: “We can make it whatever we want, and being led by Paul Moffat, Senior Director, I’m confident in our team’s ability to get our name out there, partner successfully with the community and win together.”
