CHICAGO--()--With more and more parents turning away from social media, Upparent is changing the way families discover and share recommendations online. A recent Upparent poll found that a majority of respondents are already spending less time on social media or express a desire to do so, mirroring this growing trend. For parents hoping to reduce time spent online researching activities and products for their families, Upparent provides a unique alternative, gathering personal recommendations from parents into one place to make it faster and easier than ever to find inspiration for family fun.

“Parents who turn to other parents for recommendations, whether through social media or on the sidelines of a soccer game, now have this valuable advice always available at their fingertips. So they can spend less time researching summer camps, gift ideas and recipes for picky eaters, and get back to spending more quality time with their families,” said Alexandra Fung, Upparent co-founder and CEO, and mother of three.

Recommendations are organized into themed lists and polls on topics such as favorite podcasts for kids, local “Kids Eat Free” deals, and how much money the tooth fairy leaves, with features that make it easy to interact with content for a uniquely personalized experience.

Key features include:

  • Any user can contribute favorite recommendations and content is reviewed and updated frequently, so lists continue to grow and improve over time
  • Voting and commenting on individual recommendations within each list collects valuable feedback and diverse viewpoints from the community
  • All content displayed on the site is tailored to each user’s specific location
  • Interactive maps, calendars and sorting highlight recommendations most relevant to each user
  • Favorite recommendations can be bookmarked to create personal to-do lists, such as a family summer bucket list
  • Users can create custom polls on topics related to family life and collect anonymous responses from the community

“We’re providing parents with the tools to be more intentional with their time researching online, to make discoveries based on their family’s unique interests, budget and location, and to share the things they love with one another,” said Fung.

With its initial success, Upparent will soon expand its local content into additional markets across the United States. An app is in development.
