Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies’ Website for Military & Veterans Programs Receives Award for Streamlining Occupational Licensing

—2017 Horizon Interactive Award Winner—

DENVER--()--The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies' (DORA) website for Military and Veterans Programs received a 2017 Horizon Interactive Award. The DORA proudly serves the needs of armed forces through a program designed to remove barriers to entry into the civilian workforce for members of the military and veterans, as well as their spouses. The objective of the program is to help active duty, reserves, National Guard and veterans understand how they may apply the skills that they acquired while in service toward professional licensure or certification in Colorado. DORA now has another reason to be proud.

The Horizon Interactive Awards (HIA) are among the most prestigious awards in the field of interactive and creative media. They recognize the best web sites, web site design, interactive, videos, online advertising, print media and mobile applications. The 2017 competition attracted entries from across the United States and more than 16 countries. A volunteer panel of industry professionals spanning multimedia, graphic design advertising and marketing reviewed over 1,000 entries. DORA’s Military and Veterans Programs website was awarded due to its outstanding achievement in interactive media production.

DORA’s Division of Professions and Occupations, which manages the program, implemented several initiatives to streamline and enhance professional licensure processes based on military experience. Information regarding assistance for military spouses who may currently hold a professional license in another state is also available. Additionally, the site includes links to overall consumer information important for veterans and their families, such as financial well-being, insurance, and other state agencies that provide services.

“Our goal was to provide immediate access to reliable, online information for active military members, veterans and their spouses,” said Ronne Hines, Director for the Division of Professions and Occupations at DORA. “The website holds critical information involving the steps needed to apply for state required certifications or occupational licensure. We’re honored to receive this award, and appreciate the recognition of our commitment to helping military and veterans manage their careers and take care of their families.”

DORA enlisted the services of Colorado Interactive (CI), the Statewide Internet Portal Authority (SIPA) and Denver digital agency Elevated Third to produce the website. CI provides digital government services to state agencies, local governments and educational entities through a contract with SIPA—the official internet portal connecting the public with Colorado government. The partnership’s mission allows government leaders to focus on delivering on-demand, digital government solutions without requests for proposals or the use of tax appropriations. The CI/SIPA partnership has benefited more than 40 state-department programs.

“Having served in the military, I understand how important it is for veterans to quickly transition to civilian life,” said CI’s President and General Manager, Fred Sargeson. “I’m proud that CI joined forces with SIPA and Elevated Third to utilize technology on such an important mission.”

In addition to four government partners receiving awards, CI was named one of HIA’s 2017 Distinguished Agencies.
