Third Lawsuit for Salmonella from Chicken Salad Filed in Iowa against Fareway and Triple T Specialty Meats by Pritzker Hageman Law Firm

MINNEAPOLIS--()--Pritzker Hageman law firm has filed its third lawsuit in the Salmonella outbreak that linked to Fareway chicken salad by the Iowa Department of Public Health. The lawsuit was filed against Fareway Stores, Inc. and the company that made the chicken salad, Triple T Specialty Meats, Inc. The suit was filed on February 22, 2018, in Iowa District Court, Johnson County (case number LACV079697). Lawyers Ryan Osterholm and Lindsay Lien Rinholen filed the lawsuit on behalf of D.W., who was sickened just two months after a liver transplant.

On February 3, 2018, D.W. purchased “Fareway Chicken Salad” from the deli counter of the Fareway grocery store located at 615 Westwood Drive, North Liberty, Iowa, according to documents filed with the court. By February 8, D.W. began feeling ill with nausea, fatigue, a loss of appetite, stomach pain, a fever and diarrhea, all symptoms of Salmonella, a dangerous pathogen that can cause severe illness.

On February 14, D.W. was admitted to the hospital, where she tested positive for Salmonella food poisoning (salmonellosis). Because of her recent liver transplant, doctors were gravely concerned for the viability of her transplanted liver and her life, according to the lawsuit. D.W. remained hospitalized in the ICU until February 20. The lawsuit alleges that doctors will have to closely monitor her condition to best ensure she does not lose her transplanted liver.

The Iowa Department of Public Health informed D.W. that her case was confirmed as part of the Salmonella outbreak linked to Fareway chicken salad made by Triple T, according to the lawsuit. Attorney Ryan Osterholm, one of our lead Salmonella lawyers, stated, “We will continue to investigate how so many people in Iowa contracted Salmonella and how it happened.”

On February 20, 2018, the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals identified Defendant Triple T as the manufacturer of the contaminated chicken salad sold under the Fareway label. On February 21, 2018, Triple T recalled over 20,000 pounds of “CHICKEN SALAD, PACKED FOR FAREWAY WHOLESALE COMPANY” produced between January 2 and February 7, 2018. The recall was issued due to possible Salmonella Typhimurium contamination. The recalled items were shipped exclusively to Fareway grocery stores in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
