Florida’s 4th Congressional District Could Turn From Red to Blue As Selmont Announces Candidacy

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.--()--The Congressional race in Northeast Florida received a jolt of adrenaline with the announcement that Ges Selmont, a Ponte Vedra Beach attorney and sports and entertainment entrepreneur, is entering the race to ultimately challenge incumbent John Rutherford for Florida’s 4th Congressional District (FL04).

“The people of the First Coast need thoughtful, energetic, creative, innovative and compassionate representation in Congress,” said Selmont. “The 4th District deserves better.”

The vast 4th District covers much of Florida’s First Coast, running from the Georgia border to the City of St. Augustine and includes the City of Jacksonville and its suburbs. District 4 covers Nassau County along with portions of Duval and St John’s Counties. It includes military bases, beach communities, rural farming areas and dense suburbs. Selmont believes that the diversity of the district will continue to evolve as it is one of the fastest growing areas in the U.S.

“Complex problems require creative solutions. We are smart enough, innovative enough and absolutely tireless in our approach to problem solving,” said Selmont. “This campaign will be about canvassing this incredibly diverse district and allowing the voters to shape my legislative agenda. Our solutions will align with our progressive values.”

Ges is passionate about providing all residents with greater public access to Northern Florida’s beaches, waterways and conservation lands, and supporting progressive social issues in an era of massive population growth and change. “Growth at breakneck speed scares our residents. It should. The First Coast is fragile. We need to protect it without becoming exclusionary,” he said.

Locally, there has been excitement in the Democratic Party that a talented candidate has emerged. Nationally, Selmont’s friends and acquaintances have taken notice.

“People from New York, Boston, Connecticut, and LA have expressed support. This race will be on the national radar,” he said. “We will have to run a new, fresh, energetic and innovative campaign.”

George A. “Ges” Selmont, is a proud husband and father of two teenage boys. He has a bachelor’s degree from Bard College and earned masters’ degrees from Yale. His J.D. is from Northeastern University School of Law. He served as a White House Intern for President Bill Clinton.
