NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--High demand for data scientists makes them real-life superheroes among employers -- but which fictional superhero would make a great data scientist? According to a poll* conducted by leading data science training provider Metis, it’s Batman, widely regarded as one of the smartest comic book heroes. The “World’s Greatest Detective” took 43% of the vote.
Not everyone agreed with the poll’s outcome. One Twitter respondent asked, “Does Bruce Wayne even know how to code?” Another weighed in, “Barbara Gordon is literally a data scientist and she's in second place, which says a lot about our society.” Also known as Batgirl or Oracle, Barbara Gordon came in second with 23% of the vote, while Black Panther and Wonder Woman followed with 19% and 15%, respectively.
The informal poll was taken in advance of Metis’ Demystifying Data Science Live Online Conference, a free, 12-hour program of live data science presentations from experts in the field, designed to provide insight on the training, tools, and career paths of data scientists. The conference, which takes place September 27, 2017 from 10AM – 10PM ET at demystifyingdatascience.com, will be fully interactive, featuring real-time chat, worldwide Q&A, and polling.
“What all of these superheroes share with data scientists is their outstanding intelligence, creative problem-solving skills, and dedication to training their minds,” said Jason Moss, co-founder and president of Metis. “The Demystifying Data Science event is a first for our industry, gathering speakers committed to making data science training more accessible. We’re looking forward to sharing their knowledge with aspiring data scientists around the world.”
The groundbreaking conference features 28 data science superheroes, including:
- Chris Albon - Co-Host/Co-Founder at Partially Derivative
- Deborah Berebichez - Chief Data Scientist at Metis
- Bob Hayes - President at Business Over Broadway
- Renee Teate - Host at Becoming a Data Scientist Podcast
- Kirk Borne - Principal Data Scientist at Booz Allen Hamilton
Each speaker will present live for 18 minutes before taking questions submitted via the real-time conference chat feature. The full list of speakers is available here.
Hosted by Metis’ National Data Science Evangelist, Lee Ngo, the conference is part of Metis’ larger Demystifying Data Science campaign, comprised of in-person and livestreamed events, online communities, a blog series, and resources that make it possible for aspiring data scientists to start building expertise in the field.
Metis accelerates the careers of data scientists with full-time immersive bootcamps, part-time professional development courses, online learning, and corporate training programs. Its courses are taught by expert data science practitioners, integrating project-based learning with real data sets.
