EL PASO, Texas--()--wear blue: run to remember, a national, nonprofit organization committed to building a running community that honors the service and sacrifice of the American military, and Hunt Military Communities (HMC) partnered up for the first time ever on the wear blue Memorial Day run. This past Memorial Day, over 20,000 runners and walkers around the world became a living memorial to America’s fallen heroes. wear blue teams met at various locations worldwide to participate in this run, which included more than 20 HMC properties.

The wear blue Memorial Day run uses the power of community and the accessibility of running and walking for community members to become a living memorial through their steps and honor generations of America's fallen heroes. This year’s run highlighted the 100th anniversary of United States’ entrance into World War I.

wear blue: run to remember gives people all over the world the opportunity to honor our service members who selflessly gave their life for our freedoms,” said President, Co-Founder and Gold Star Wife, Lisa Hallett. “This Memorial Day run served as a moving memorial of remembrance from all branches, and all wars, including World War I.”

For the first HMC event, properties had more than 1,300 runners committing 4,289 miles. In all, 20 properties in 17 states were represented.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled for the partnership between HMC and wear blue: run to remember,” stated Cindy Gersch, wear blue: run to remember Memorial Day Program Director and Hunt Vice President of Corporate Communications. “Bringing this event to our properties just made sense. It allows our teams to not only remember those who died for our freedoms, but to promote camaraderie and a healthy lifestyle throughout the run.”

Each run began with a Circle of Remembrance where the names of military members killed in action were called out.
