United Language Group plans aggressive growth in language services industry in partnership with Northern Pacific Group

United Language Group, Inc. (ULG) today announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Merrill Brink International, the language services division of Merrill Corporation, for an undisclosed sum.

The transaction immediately ranks United Language Group in the top 25 globally and 6th in the U.S. by revenue, according to industry analysts Common Sense Advisory.

United Language Group is led by chief executive officer Jeff Brink who previously co-founded PH Brink International which was acquired by Merrill in 2005 and is now known as Merrill Brink. ULG’s vision is to assemble a family of complementary companies, with a goal of becoming one of the largest language service providers in the world.

“We are thrilled to launch our strategy with the acquisition of Merrill Brink,” said Brink, CEO of ULG. “The company has maintained a sterling reputation over many years, has an outstanding operation and is well-known for innovation. We view Merrill Brink as an ideal platform for our expansion plans, which include additional near-term acquisitions.”

The ULG executive leadership team includes decades-long industry veterans Chief Operating Officer Hans Fenstermacher and Senior Vice President Greg Brink.

United Language Group is a privately funded language services company backed by Northern Pacific Group, a Minneapolis-based investment firm.

“We’re excited about this investment in the language business and we see tremendous opportunities for growth, both organically and through further acquisitions. We fully support ULG’s vision and expect to be very active in this highly fragmented $40 billion industry,” said Northern Pacific Group partner Peter Offenhauser.

The transaction is expected to be finalized by May 31, 2016.
