ANAHEIM, Calif.--()--YKK (U.S.A.) Inc. will hold a commissioning ceremony on March 3, 2016 to celebrate the installation of a 521 kW solar photovoltaic system at its Anaheim, California facility. The ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with executives from solar module manufacturer Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. and installation firm SunGreen Systems in attendance, along with other invited dignitaries.

After researching renewable energy a year ago, YKK (U.S.A.) Inc. found that its Anaheim location could cover most of its energy costs through solar. Teaming up with SunGreen Systems, the zipper manufacturer installed 1,968 Diamond Pro™ solar modules on the roof of its plant. The installation offsets nearly 100 percent of the facility’s energy usage and represents the fourth largest solar panel project in the city of Anaheim as well as the first solar panel project for YKK (U.S.A.) Inc.

John Hoffman, managing partner of SunGreen Systems said, “Given the current ITC rebate and declining cost of solar, we are seeing more and more companies realize that solar is affordable and payback time is very attractive.”

According to SunGreen Systems, this system is expected to produce 843,336 kWh in the first year of production, which will result in a CO2 offset of 896 tons. This amount of CO2 offset would be the equivalent of planting 4,484 trees every year. The life of the system would also result in a CO2 offset of 26,880 tons, which is the equivalent of planting 134,520 trees.

“We are honored to be a part of the first solar project for YKK in the United States,” said Kiyoshi Furukawa, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc. “This installation demonstrates YKK’s leadership and strong commitment to the environment.”

“Turning to solar energy not only aligns with YKK’s environmental philosophy but our business model as well,” said Alex Gregory, chairman, president and CEO of YKK Corporation of America, the parent company of YKK (U.S.A.) Inc. “It’s a great feeling to know that we are saving on energy costs and producing clean energy.”

Those invited to attend the commissioning ceremony include: Consul General of Japan Hidehisa Horinouchi; Assemblyman Donald P. Wagner representing California’s 68th Assembly District; Rep. Loretta Sanchez of California’s 46th District; Kiyoshi Furukawa, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc.; Y.Y. Lin, founder of SunGreen Systems and Alex Gregory, chairman, president and CEO of YKK Corporation of America.

Members of the media are also invited to attend this event.
