History-Making Trans Am Champion Amy Ruman a Double Victory for McNICHOLS Company

TAMPA, Fla.--()--When Amy Ruman crossed the finish line Saturday at Daytona International Speedway, McNICHOLS Company, the nation’s leading supplier of perforated and expanded metal, wire cloth and safety gratings, celebrated the historical win with her.

The No. 23 McNichols Company Chevrolet Corvette placed first in the Bullet Liner Championship Weekend TA Class, putting driver Amy Ruman and her McNICHOLS-sponsored race car into the history books. With her finish, Amy Ruman, 40, became the first woman, as a solo driver, to win a Trans Am championshipthe 2015 TA Class Championship − and one of the few women to win a major motorsports championship.

The achievement is more than a win for Amy Ruman. It was special for McNICHOLS Company Chairman and CEO Gene McNichols. Amy Ruman is McNichols' niece. Ruman Racing is a family of race professionals that includes Amy, her father, driver/owner Bob Ruman, her mother and owner Barb Ruman (McNichols’ sister), Amy’s sister Niki, a Ruman driver, and Niki’s husband, Dave Skinner, crew chief.

Ruman entered the race with seven wins in 11 races, and the Saturday final secured eight wins and the title.

“I am filled with triple excitement and joy for our family, personally and professionally,” said McNichols, “I am especially proud of Amy, the Ruman Racing Team and the McNICHOLS Company and each of their roles in this celebrated event,” said McNichols. (PHOTO LINKS BELOW)

The Championship title is not only an historical event for Amy. It is a win for the entire team, including the dedicated Ruman Racing crew, said McNichols. “Amy has a crew of outstanding team members who have worked hard over the years to reach the top of their sport, and McNICHOLS is proud to play a part in her record-breaking victory.”

McNICHOLS Company has sponsored the Ruman Racing Team since 2001. Sponsorship of the team and the Chevrolet Corvette demonstrates McNichols’ belief in the value of family entrepreneurship. Gene McNichols’ father, Bob McNichols, founded MCNICHOLS Company in 1952, and was a Corvette fan who owned a Silver Anniversary Corvette when he died in 1981. Following his death, Gene McNichols took the helm and has overseen the company’s decades of growth.

Today, the day-to-day operations are led by Gene McNichols’ sons Scott McNichols, president, Steven McNichols, vice president, and daughter Jennifer McNichols Sack, vice president. Together, they continue to grow the company revenue and advance its mission to be the No.1 service provider for Hole Products through superior Service, Quality and Performance.
