ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Young students in the Gangnam community of Seoul, South Korea, are excited about the recent opening of Edible Village Bilingual Kindergarten. This unique kindergarten offers a garden-based bilingual (Korean and English) program co-developed by Fairmont International Education and Edible Edu in Seoul. The kindergarten combines the global-minded curriculum of Fairmont Private Schools with Edible Edu’s nature-friendly curriculum based on the Edible Schoolyard Project, which turns gardens and kitchens into classrooms. Fairmont International Education is a division of the Fairmont Education Group, which includes Fairmont Private Schools, Fairmont Preparatory Academy and Thesys International, LLC in Orange County. Edible Village Bilingual Kindergarten represents the first of several kindergarten schools being planned under the partnership of Fairmont International Education and Edible Edu to open in the region of Seoul, South Korea.
“Fairmont International Education understands how important it is to nurture students to become global citizens,” said John Barrier, Director, Fairmont International Education. “We are proud to partner with Edible Edu in creating a global-minded learning community for young students that embraces the best that Korean and American education programs have to offer.”
Wonsun Jini Eum, Director of Edible Village Bilingual Kindergarten, was impressed by the quality education her brother and sister received when they attended Fairmont Preparatory Academy (high school). Her siblings are now pursuing degrees at Ivy League schools. She reached out to Fairmont and initiated a partnership to establish a kindergarten where students learn to become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural. Eum’s goal is to see South Korean students benefit from both U.S. and Korean early childhood education. They will master literacy and other subjects in both Korean and English while also benefiting from the experiential learning of planting and harvesting organic produce. As a result, students will receive a strong early education, as well as gain a healthy respect for nature. Edible Village Bilingual Kindergarten aims to develop life-long learners and future leaders who are environmentally conscious and have a global mindset.
A team of Fairmont teachers and administrators has worked for more than a year to develop a curriculum that blends both English and Korean early childhood education. Both South Korean and American educators are teaching at the opening of the new kindergarten.
Fairmont’s early childhood program is designed to help children master key literacy and math skills. The program blends advanced academics with developmentally and age appropriate activities. Students also benefit from dramatic play, technology time, music, art and other enriching activities. Overall, Fairmont campuses also have a long history of educating South Korean and Korean-American students.
