BROOKLYN, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Stratasys and Bre Pettis, co-founder of MakerBot, are excited to announce the formation of Bold Machines: The Innovation Workshop at Stratasys. Bold Machines works at the frontier of 3D printing technology and partners with innovators to showcase Stratasys, MakerBot, and Solidscape 3D Printers. This innovative new program is the beginning of an adventure in innovation that showcases the power of Bold Machines. Bold Machines has been charged with exploring the forward edge of innovation with powerful Stratasys, MakerBot, and Solidscape 3D Printers. Bold Machines plans on keeping these machines busy pushing the edges of what's possible with 3D printing technology.
“We are so excited to launch Bold Machines,” noted Bre Pettis, co-founder of the project. “Bold Machines has been a vision of Stratasys and mine for a while now and we finally have the opportunity to bring the power of all of our 3D printers together to showcase the true ability of 3D printing. It’s very exciting.”
Bold Machines is looking for individuals, businesses, and brands to collaborate with. If you are someone who wants to make innovative things that will blow minds, Bold Machines would like to collaborate with you. Bold Machines plans to enable friends, old and new, to work with the Innovation Workshop, based in MakerBot’s original office space in Brooklyn, New York.
One of Bold Machines’ first projects is Margo. Margo is an inspiring character that will star in a full-length animated feature. With Bold Machines, the movie-making process has been turned it on its head and is being launched with the merchandise first – 3D printed merchandise. Margo is a smart young detective whose parents have gone missing on a space exploration mission, is the central character of a fully 3D printed storyline created by Bold Machines co-founders Bre Pettis and Robert Steiner, with the help of Anthony Willie. The team brought in the incredible talent of artist Jose Alves da Silva to collaborate on creating the Margo character and supporting players. da Silva has been instrumental in developing imaginative characters for advertising, games and films. Most recently, he has been dedicated to developing collectible figures and model kits. For Margo, da Silva and the Bold Machines team developed the characters and the models; they are launching the concept today with Margo as a fully downloadable character available on Thingiverse.com that can be downloaded and 3D printed in large format on 3D printers like the Stratasys Fortus900mc 3D Production System, the MakerBot Replicator Z18 3D Printer, and also in small scale on 3D printers like the Solidscape MAX2 high precision 3D printer, or even the MakerBot Replicator Mini Compact 3D Printer.
Bold Machines plans on introducing a new character from the Margo movie and story released via Thingiverse.com every Monday, and Bold Machines will share developments as it explores the frontier of movie making by creating great 3D printable characters.
Bold Machines pioneers the frontier of 3D printing with the use of Stratasys, MakerBot and Solidscape 3D Printers. The workshop currently is running Stratasys Fortus900mc 3D Production System with a giant build volume, the Stratasys Objet500 Connex3 Color Multi-material 3D Printer, with multi-color multi-material capabilities; the MakerBot Replicator Z18 3D Printer with its massive build volume; and Solidscape 3Z Max2, a wax 3D printer.
