Office Depot, Inc. Chief Legal Officer Named among ‘America’s 50 Outstanding General Counsel’

BOCA RATON, Fla.--()--Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE:ODP), a leading global provider of office products, services, and solutions formed by the merger of Office Depot and OfficeMax, today announced that Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer Elisa Garcia was named among America’s 50 Outstanding General Counsel by The National Law Journal.

Those who received the national honor run in-house legal departments for some of the top companies in the U.S. In selecting honorees, The National Law Journal’s criteria included excellence in obtaining legal results, closing big deals, innovating department operations, serving as leaders in the profession, promoting diversity and inclusion, and encouraging pro bono contributions during the last five years.

All of the honorees have "mastered the multitude of skills demanded of today's in-house counsel," according to Leigh Jones, senior editor of The National Law Journal. "These attorneys, who head legal departments at some of the most important companies and organizations in the world, serve as models inside their companies and out in their communities." They represent a wide range of organizations, including tech startups, government agencies, agriculture giants, entertainment corporations and community nonprofits.

“This honor is a reflection of the strength, talent and accomplishments of the entire Office Depot legal team,” Garcia said. “We’ve made concerted efforts to integrate ourselves deep into the organization as business partners, and to think critically from different perspectives beyond just the legal considerations. This approach has helped us to provide greater value across the organization.”

In her role as chief legal officer, Garcia oversees regulatory, compliance and government-affairs matters. She serves on the Boards of the America Arbitration Association, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession, the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce and as an Advisory Board member for the Corporate Pro Bono Institute.
