NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hill+Knowlton Strategies today announced it has tapped David Bowen, an influential public policy advisor, scientist and global health expert, to lead the advisory firm’s global health care practice.
The new position is effective July 1, reporting directly to H+K Strategies’ vice chair and global head of practices, Vivian Lines. In this role Bowen will oversee the work of Hill+Knowlton Strategies specialists worldwide, comprising a health care team that is one of the largest and most experienced in the industry.
“The changes confronting the health care industry are unprecedented, from an increase in worldwide demand for medical services, to skyrocketing costs, to increased regulation and wavering public trust,” said H+K Strategies Global Chairman and CEO Jack Martin. “David’s strong international pedigree and tremendous reputation throughout the health care world are unparalleled, making him the exact trusted advisor CEOs and other organizational leaders are looking for to help them navigate this change and drive real business value. I’m thrilled to welcome him to the H+K Strategies family.”
Bowen was instrumental in shepherding President Obama’s landmark health care bill through the Senate as staff director for health of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) under Chairman Sen. Ted Kennedy. He then served as deputy director of global health policy and advocacy for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Most recently, Bowen was CEO of Malaria No More, a global nonprofit dedicated to ending deaths from malaria through communication, programs and advocacy.
“I’m honored to be selected for this exciting role that brings together two of the more dynamic fields in modern life – health sciences and communication,” said Bowen, whose complete title will be global health care practice lead and executive vice president. “It’s exciting to be at a nexus of these two fields, and in particular I look forward to being there with the extraordinarily impressive team at Hill+Knowlton Strategies.”
Bowen has also been a visiting professor for the department of health care policy at Harvard Medical School. Earlier in his career he worked in a lab on Parkinson’s disease-related stem cell research. Bowen earned a BA from Brown University and a Ph.D. in neurobiology from the University of California at San Francisco.
Bowen’s appointment to lead the health care practice, H+K Strategies’ second-largest global sector practice, is the latest in a series of recent global practice announcements from the firm. These include Tim Luckett and Bill Coletti, co-chairs of the global crisis communications and risk management practice, and Chris Gidez, head of the firm’s global energy practice.
