ALFA Profiles New Best Practices in Senior Living

Best of the Best Award Winning Programs Featured in May/June Issue of Senior Living Executive magazine

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--()--The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) today announced the winners of the ALFA 2013 Best of the Best Awards in the May/June issue of Senior Living Executive magazine. These annual awards honor new innovations that promote resident quality of life and business excellence in the field of senior living. ALFA will recognize the winning best practices at the ALFA 2013 Conference & Expo, May 6-9 in Charlotte, N.C.

“Companies operating in the senior living space have a long tradition of sharing best practices to advance business excellence and champion quality of life for residents living in communities for seniors,” said Richard P. Grimes, president and CEO of ALFA. “This year, a trend across many nominations is a focus on offering greater meaning and purpose to programs impacting the lives of residents, their families, staff, professional resources and even society in general. ALFA is proud to spotlight this year’s winning programs in Senior Living Executive magazine.”

The ALFA 2013 Best of the Best Awards program invited companies to offer nominations in 11 different topical categories. The winning program in each category and the companies submitting them are:

A Taste of The Future: The Next Generation Dining Menu

Bradley-Ill.-based BMA Management won for its Eat Smart, Live Strong program. Created in partnership with Eastern Illinois University, the program helps develop and measure impactful resident diet and exercise programs.

Encouraging New Resident Engagement in the First 90 Days

Lincoln, Neb.-based Legacy Retirement won with its Legacy Way Orientation, which creates truly personalized experiences for residents after move-in day.

Equipping Community Staff with Mobile Technology

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Brookdale Senior Living won for its Brookdale Senior Living Hospitality IQ app, which serves to answer frequently asked staff questions on a wide variety of operational topics.

Going Green, Saving Green: Energy, Recycling and Expense Reduction Strategies

Southington, Conn.-based The Orchards at Southington won for its comprehensive Our Earth, Our Dream, Go Green program.

Honoring the Life of a Resident Following His or Her Death

Des Plaines, Ill.-based Pathway Senior Living won for its Viva! approach to honoring the life of a resident at end of life.

Hot & Cold: Innovating Lead Management Initiatives

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Brookdale Senior Living won for its new sales associate onboarding program.

Meaningful Resident Programs Creating Purposeful Days

Hershey, Penn.-based Country Meadows Retirement Communities won for its Celebrating Independence resident lifestyles conference.

Reducing Resident and Staff Injury

Irvine, Calif.-based Silverado Senior Living won for its SilveradOSHA mock inspection and safety program.

Supporting Families of Residents During Transitional Times

Chicago, Ill.-based Senior Lifestyle Corporation won for its Walk with Me collaborative family-staff program, matching a community staff member with families of residents to ensure ongoing communication right after move-in.

Turning Around Caregiver Turnover

Mt. Laurel, N.J.-based Brandywine Senior Living won for its Orientation and Culture Training program, offering all staff early access to top company thought-leaders.

Creating Greater ROI in Leadership Development

Wellesley, Mass.-based Benchmark Senior Living won for its Lead Aide Steps to Success program that recognizes the importance of leader development at grassroots levels of the organization.
