AUSTIN, Texas--()--CompassLearning, a leading provider of K-12 personalized learning solutions that empower teachers to help every child reach their potential for academic success and personal growth, announced the 2012 summer version of CompassLearning Odyssey®.

The new version, which will be released this summer, provides educators:

  • more flexibility to customize, control and add curriculum, content, and authentic tasks for their unique teaching situations;
  • innovative course and grade management features that help teachers spend more time teaching by reducing administration time;
  • more than 400 new activities for reading language arts, math and science across the K-12 curriculum; and
  • pre-built Odyssey High School courses support original credit, yet are designed to help educators quickly implement credit recovery programs.

Expanded Content Control

In addition to utilizing pre-built courses that are complete and ready to use upon implementation, educators have the flexibility to customize the content to their teaching style and/or classroom situation within the Odyssey system. With Odyssey 2012, teachers and school or district officials can now create courses and then upload custom content from external documents or embedded links to build authentic tasks into those courses that enable extended learning opportunities. The content can be controlled at the district-level or in the classroom. These new features, along with Odyssey’s industry-leading assessment and prescription capabilities, give teachers more flexibility in customizing learning paths for each and every student while saving time that they can now focus on instruction and student achievement.

Course and Grade Management

The new version of Odyssey now offers comprehensive gradebook functionality. Using the new Odyssey Gradebook, teachers can enter and modify student grades through an easy to use, spreadsheet style interface. Data from Odyssey assessments and activities are automatically populated in the gradebook, and teachers can easily add offline activities such as homework, projects, presentations, etc., and assign custom weighting to elements to calculate final grades. Odyssey Gradebook also includes a student view, helping students to track their progress with a simple click of the mouse. Data from the gradebook can be exported to standard file formats for use with other district reporting systems.

More Than 400 New Activities

For more than a decade, Compass Learning has been a leader in delivering highly engaging, interactive curriculum and content that is aligned to state standards, and now Common Core, and built on more than 40 years of research into how students think and learn.
