CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--THE CABLE SHOW 2011 - Wazco, the leading provider of multi-sector metro LTE picocells, and Lindsay Broadband, last-mile communications product leader, today announced a first-of-its-kind, strand-mounted optical backhaul solution for Wazco's family of MetroStorm basestations. Dubbed “MetroStrand,” these LTE 4G-enabled optical gateways allow cable operators to deploy managed gigabit services “right at the strand.”
“MetroStrand is specifically designed to take full advantage of existing multiple system operator (MSO) assets,” explained Mike Nasco, Wazco’s CEO. “MetroStrand is specifically designed to be deployed in less than an hour, allowing rapid, straightforward, cost-effective, and scalable network augmentation. In addition, MetroStrand is powered by eSON™, the advanced RAN management software by AirHop Communications, facilitating seamless integration with MetroStorm clusters.”
“Lindsay’s Optical Gateway platform eliminates the need for expensive outdoor cabinets and provides Wazco’s MetroStrand outdoor hardened access to the MSO's infrastructure for optical backhaul,” added David Atman, Lindsay Broadband’s president. “Our FLEeX LM™ Architecture is an ideal fit for MetroStrand and has a wide variety of deployment options and configurations.”
Wazco MetroStrand is a "single sector," 700MHz strand-mounted basestation which is functionally equivalent to one of the 4 sectors of the Wazco MetroStorm metrocell announced last month at the LTE World Summit in Amsterdam.
