Samuel Di Piazza to Join Citi as Vice Chairman within Institutional Clients Group

NEW YORK--()--Citi announced today that Samuel Di Piazza, Jr. has joined as a Vice Chairman in the Institutional Clients Group. Mr. Di Piazza will be a member of the Senior Strategic Advisory Group, which includes some of Citi's most senior and effective bankers focused exclusively on client relationships.

Mr. Di Piazza retired as Global Chief Executive Officer of PricewaterhouseCoopers International Limited (PwC) in September 2009, after serving in the role since January 2002. Over his thirty-six year career at PwC, which included thirty years as a partner, he held several positions including Chairman and Senior Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers US firm and was a member of the Global Leadership Team. Under his leadership for the large majority of its first decade after the merger of Coopers & Lybrand with Price Waterhouse, PwC experienced record revenue and growth levels and repositioned itself as the leading accounting, tax and advisory business. In the years under his leadership, PwC expanded operations in the emerging markets, becoming the largest professional services firm throughout the world, including the leading position in each of China, India, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.

In addition to his role as a frequent commentator on issues of corporate reporting, transparency and sustainable development, Mr. Di Piazza currently serves as a Trustee and a member of the Executive Committee of the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation, is past Chairman of the Geneva based World Business Council on Sustainable Development and serves on the USA Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum. Mr. Di Piazza currently serves on the Board of Directors of DirecTV and Apollo Group and St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and on the Board of Trustees of the Mayo Clinic. He is currently a member of the Executive Committee and the immediate past Chairman, Board of Trustees, of The Conference Board, Inc. and has previously served as a Trustee for the Financial Accounting Foundation. He is a member of the Board of Governors and the past Global Chairman of Junior Achievement Worldwide and serves as a member of the Executive Council of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.

Mr. Di Piazza received a degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama and an MS in Tax Accounting from the University of Houston. He has been honored as Accountant of the Year by the Beta Alpha Psi Society and is a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the INROADS Leadership Award. Mr. Di Piazza is the co-author of Building Public Trust: The Future of Corporate Reporting.
